BROWN BOY BROWN GIRL READS
BROWN BOY BROWN GIRL READS AT A GLANCE
Brown Boy Brown Girl Reads is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) charity dedicated to empowering the minds of young BIPOC children in the greater community. We are committed to providing enriching learning experiences that promote reading, writing, financial literacy and youth entrepreneurship. Our programming is designed to be fun and engaging while encouraging the development of essential skills and knowledge. We strive to foster an environment of inclusivity and acceptance, so that every child can feel safe and empowered to reach their full potential.
REACH TO READ INITIATIVE
Reach to Read was established to promote reading and literacy; to offer diverse and cultural literature, and to grow a love of reading among children.
In 2016 we collected 1500 new and gently used children's books and donated them to organizations in Flint through the Christ Enrichment Center, which was a literacy hub in the area at the time. Our Reach to Read book drive was a direct response to city's water crisis. The books were disseminated to underserved youth and aided in reversing possible brain damage that could have occurred in a child who was exposed to lead.
Since the inception of the Reach to Read Initiative, Brown Boy Brown Girl Reads is working on expansion of the program in hopes of connecting more families in Kalamazoo to BIPOC children's books.

REACH TO READ BOOK DRIVE
Connecting Community to Books
With this initiative, our goal is to encourage children to reach for books in their spare time with the books we collect through our Reach to Read book drive. The community is encouraged to donate new or gently used books. Learn more about our drive and how you can donate a book by getting in touch with our team today.
END OF SUMMER READING MEET THE AUTHOR
Avoid the summer slide
With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to connect families with multicultural children's books. Under our new program, children will have the opportunity to read, play and learn during story time in the park. Contact us to learn more about our commitment to this cause.
Cultivating Youth Entrepreneurship
Through our annual Junior CEO Business Fair and Conference, we introduce children to entrepreneurship. Additionally, we have workshops that focus on money smarts, trademarks, and starting a business. Children have the opportunity to showcase their business during our interactive marketplace. We are always striving to make a difference and invite you to learn more and lend your support.
Since the inception of our Reach to Read Initiative, we donated over 1200 new and gently used books we collected through our Reach to Read book drive to organizations that serve underserved communities.
Meet The Authors
Our inaugural Meet the Authors in summer 2022 garnered 13 children's authors from across the country to read and disseminated books to over 30 children in Kalamazoo.
GIVE THE GIFT OF LITERACY
Your gift in any amount will allow us to help build a child's personal library with multicultural books.
“Reading is a passport to countless adventures.”
